We know,

\;{1}/{f}\;=\;{1}/{v}-\;{1}/{u}

⇒ \;\; \;{1}/{v}\;=\;{1}/{f}+\;{1}/{u}

⇒ \;\; \;{1}/{v}\;=\;{1}/{8}+\;{1}/{-24}

\;{1}/{v}\;=\;{1}/{8}-\;{1}/{24}

\;{1}/{v}=\;{3-1}/{24}=\;{2}/{24}=\;{1}/{12}

v=12 {\cm}

Thus the distance of the image from the lens is

12 {\cm}
