is closed, External Resistance is

\;=\;{1}/{5}+\;{1}/{5}=\;{2}/{5}

∴ \;\; {\R}_{ {\P}}=\;{5}/{2}=2.5 Ω

∴

Total resistance

\;= {\R}_{ {\P}}+r

\;=2.5+0.5

\;={3} Ω
