Centriole is devoid of DNA. Yet it is capable of duplication, i.e. have ability to form their own duplicates, astral poles and basal bodies without having DNA and a membranous covering. These minute, submicroscopic, microtubular and subcylinder structures have a configuration of nine triplets. They are found in almost all eukaryotic animal cells, protozoan protists (except Amoeba), some fungi, green algae, bryophytes, pteridophytes and cycads. But are absent in angiosperm and higher gymnosperms.
