Let the cost price be Rs. x
Marked price = x + 40% of x = Rs. 1.4x
Discount = 40
Selling price = 1.4x – 40
According to the question,
⇒ 1.4x – 40 = 520
⇒ 1.4x = 560
⇒ x = 400
⇒ Cost price = Rs. 400
∴ Profit % = {(selling price – cost price)/Cost price} × 100 = {(520 – 400)/400} × 100 = 30%
