(b) All vehicle insurance policies will now includepersonal accident cover worth Rs 15 lakh in case ofthe death of the owner while driving or riding. Thisnew rule will help the families of accident victimsespecially two-wheeler riders who are most of thetime under-insured. The Insurance Regulatory andDevelopment Authority (IRDAI) in a circular hasdirected all third-party insurance companies toinclude this cover to vehicle owners-drivers of allvehicles (two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passengervehicles and commercial vehicles) for an additionalpremium of Rs 750 per year (annual insurancepolicy).
