The meaning of the word Birhor is from the two words of the Mundari language – Bir and Hor. Bir means forest and Hor means man. So the meaning of the word is Man of Forest. The live in forest and lead a nomadic life. Some of them have now adopted a stable life. The nomadic birhors are known as ulthu or mulias, while the stable birhors are known as janghi or dhania.
