The Chota Nagpur Tenancy Act was enforced in 1908. The credit for formulating this act goes to Father John Baptist Hoffman. This is also known as the Magna Carta of the tribal affairs. This act reinforces that the land should be the common property of all not of any one individual. The tribals received the rights of Bhuhari and khuntkatti due to this act.
