The disaccharide is composed of the two monosaccharide units. The maltose is an example of a disaccharide which is made up of the two glucose units attached by the α-1,4 glycosidic linkage. This is the glycosidic linkage between the α-anomeric form of C-1 on one sugar and the hydroxyl oxygen atom on C-4 of the adjacent sugar.
