Solution:

Rate downstream of boat = Distance/Time =

km/minute
= 0.4 km/minute
If the speed of boat in still water be 5x km/min., speed of current = x km/min.
.∴ Rate downstream = 5x + x = 6x km/min
∴ 6x = 0.4

∴ Rate upstream = 5x - x
= 4x km/min =
