A rectangular carpet has an area of 120sq. metres and a perimeter of 46 metres. The length of its diagonal (In metres) is :

Solution:

Let the length of carpet = a m and breadth = b m.
Then, 2 (a + b) as 46
⇒ a + b = 23
Again, ab= 120
∴ Diagonal =

√{a^2+b^2}

√{(a+b)^2-2ab}

√{(23)^2-240}

√{529-240}

√{289}

= 17 m
