Calculations:
Let Income = 5x and 6x
Income – saving = expenditure
According to the question
$\Rightarrow \left(5\mathit{x}\mathit{–}500\right)/\left(6\mathit{x}-500\right)=5/8$
$\Rightarrow 40\mathit{x}\mathit{–}4000=30\mathit{x}\mathit{–}2500$
$\Rightarrow 10\mathit{x}=1500$
$\Rightarrow \mathit{x}=150$
P’s income $=5\times 150=\mathit{R}\mathit{s}.750$
Q’s income $=6\times 150=\mathit{R}\mathit{s}.900$
∴ P and Q’s income is Rs. 750 and Rs. 900 respectively.
