is divided by (x -1) is -11. What is the value of k?

Solution:

Concept used
If (x - a) is a factor of a polynomial equation, then by putting x = a the equation becomes zero.
Calculation
Putting x = 1

∴ 3(1)^3 + k(1)^2 + 5(1) - 6 = -11

⇒ 3 + k + 5 - 6 = -11

⇒ k + 2 = -11

∴ k = -13
