For his book, The City and The Sea, Indian journalist-author Raj Kamal Jha was honoured with the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize 2020.
Peter Bundalo, the publisher of the novel, made the announcement on December 9, 2020. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the winner of the prestigious Literary Prize was declared online in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The honour comes with a $5,000 cash prize. The novel 'The City and The Sea' by Jha is based on the Nirbhaya rape and murder case in December 2012.
From ten shortlisted novels, including Nirmala Govindarajan's Taboo, Ranjit Hoskote's Jonahwhale, and Amitav Ghosh's Gun Island, it was selected as the award winner.
