Biomass is a naturally available substance from plants, which store solar energy by the process of photosynthesis. It contains carbon and hydrogen which on burning produce carbon dioxide and water vapour. These products when passed-over hot charcoal, produce gaseous fuel that can be utilised in rural electrification. Biomass is easily available and power generated from this will be available round the clock. Places, where the state electricity grid fails to deliver, biomass gasifers can spell magic. With little initiative biomass gasification can light up remote areas of the country like never before. The power generated can be used for irrigation, small scale industries and lighting.
