Two trains, 330 and 110 m long, are going in the same direction. The faster train takes one minute to pass the other completely. If they are moving in opposite directions, they pass each other completely in 3 s. What is the speed of the faster train?

Validate

Solution:

(a ) Let the speed of faster train be x m/s and speed of slower train be y m/s.
According to the question,

240/{x-y}

= 60
⇒ x - y = 4 ......(i)
and

240/{x+y}

= 3s
⇒ x + y = 4 ......(ii)
On solving Eq. (i) and Eqs. (ii), we get
x = 42 m/s and y = 38 m/s
∴ Speed of faster train = 42 m/s
