A man is 3 yr older than his wife and four times as old as his son. If the son becomes 15 yr old after 3 yr, what is the present age of the wife?

Solution:

Let the present age of the son be x yr.
Then , present age of the father = 4x yr
According to the question,

x + 3 = 15 yr

⇒ x = 15 - 3 = 12 yr

Hence, present age of the father

= 4x = 4 x 12 = 48 yr

So, the present age of the wife

= 48 - 3 = 45 yr
