The value of non-zero scalar α and β such that for all vectors a and b such that

α(a+2b)-β(4b—a)=0

is

α = 0 β= 0
α = -2, β= -3
α = 1, β= 3
α = -2, β= 3

Solution:

We have,

α(a+2b)-β(4b-a)=0

⇒(α+β)a+(2α-4β)b=0

⇒α+β=0

and

2α-4β=0

⇒α+β=0

and

α-2β=0

⇒α=β=0
