In a class 20% of students are below 14 years of age. Out of the remaining students 10% are of die age 14 - 15 years and ratio of students who are between 15-16 years of age to student above 16 years of age is 3 : 2. If the number of students who are above 16 years is 72, what is the total number of students in the class?

Solution:

Let total no. of student = x
Students below 14 years = 20% of

x={20x}/100=x/5

Students between 14-15 years = 10% of

{4x}/5

=10/100×{4x}/5={8x}/100={2x}/25

{\Students (15-16)}/{\Students(> 16)}=3/2

Now, student (>16) = 72
∴ Students (15-16) = 108 (Given)

∴x/5+{2x}/25+72+108=x

∴x=250
