A fruit seller sold big, medium and smallsized apples for Rs 15, Rs 10 and Rs 5 respectively. The total number of apples sold were in the ratio 3 : 2 : 5. Find the average cost of an apple.

Solution:

Selling price of big-sized apple = Rs 15
Total cost = 15 × 3 = Rs 45
Selling price of medium-sized apple sold at rate = Rs 10
Total cost = 10 × 2 = Rs 20
Selling of small sized apple sold at rate = Rs 5
Total cost = 5 × 5 = Rs 25
Average cost of an apple

={ \Total \cost \of \big, \medium \and \small-\sized \apples}/{ \Number \of \big, \small \and \medium-\sized \apples }

={45+20+25}/{3+2+5}=90/10=9

Average cost of an apple = Rs 9
