In what ratio must water be mixed with aliquid soap so as to gain 20% when selling the mixture at the cost price?

Solution:

Let the CP of one litre soap = Rs 100
Then SP of one litre of mixture = Rs 100 at 20% profit
The CP of one litre of mixture

=100/120×100=\Rs250/3

So, the ratio of soap to water = 5 : 1
and that of water to soap = 1 : 5
