Foeticide is killing a child before it takes birth while infanticide is killing a child before the age of 1 year.
Our country witnesses high cases of foeticide especially female foeticide and sex-selective abortions.
This has been made an offence under IPC and section 315 provides punishment for the same.
Punishment: Imprisonment up to 10 years and fine.
Besides this, Parliament has created a specific law to control female foeticide namely, Pre Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PCPNDT) Act.
Causing miscarriage of woman with bad intention is punishable under section 312.
