The difference between the length and the breadth of a rectangle is 27 m. If its perimeter is 214 m, then its area is:

2480 $m^2$
2620 $m^2$
2680 $m^2$
2820 $m^2$

Solution:

As we see in the figure,
Let the length of the rectangle be a m and breadth of the rectangle be b m.
According to problem,
⇒ a – b = 27 ----(1)
And, 2(a + b) = 214
⇒ a + b = 107 ----(2)
From (1) and (2) we get,
⇒ a = 67 and b = 40
∴ The area of the rectangle = 67 × 40 = 2680
