A shopkeeper purchased a stereo system of marked price ₹ 2000, at successive discounts of 10% & 15% respectively. He then spent ₹ 70 on packaging and sold it at ₹ 2000. Calculate his gain percentage.

Solution:

(2) MP of article = ₹ 2000
Successive discount = 10% and 15%
Net discount= 10 + 15 –

(10×15) /100

= 23.5%
Shopkeeper bought for= 2000 –

23.5/100

× 2000
= 2000 – 470 =₹ 21530
After investing ₹ 70 on packing,
total CP = 1530 + 70 = ₹ 1600
SP =₹ 2000

{ P } \% = { { SP } - { CP } } /{ { SP } } × 100

= { 2000 - 1600 }/ { 1600 } × 100

= { 400 } /{ 1600 } \× 100 = 25 \%
