If AD:DB = 2 :5 and area of ΔABC is 98 cm sq. What is the area (in sq cm) of quadrilateral BDEC?

Validate

Solution:

∵ ΔADE ~ ΔABC

∴

{\Area \of \Δ\ADE}/{\Area \of \Δ\ABC}=(\AD/\AB)^2

⇒

{\Area \of \Δ\ADE}/98=(2/7)^2=4/49

∴ Area of ΔADE = 8 cm

∴ Area

□\BDEC = 9 8 -8 = 90 \cm^2
