Solution:

Let the marked price of item = Rs. 100

x

Amount after 10 % discount =

100x − 10 / 100 × 100x

100x − 10x = Rs.90x

Selling price after 20 % cashback =

90x − 20 /100 ×90x

90x − 18x = Rs.72x

⇒ Total discounted amount =

100x− 72x = Rs.28x

∴ Effective discount =

{28x}/ {100x }× 100 = 28%
