Aruna Asaf Ali is best known for hoisting the Indian National Congress flag at the Gowalia Tank maidan in Bombay during the Quit India Movement. This movement was launched in the year 1942 after the failure of the Cripps Mission. It was a violent movement. When all the prominent leaders were arrested by the British then Aruna Asaf Ali and other young leaders carried forward the movement.
