We know, length of the transverse common tangent

=\√{{({ \distance \between \centres })^{2}} -(r_{1}+r_{2})^{2}}

=\√{(17)^{2}-(4+4)^{2}}

=\√{289-64}

=\√{225}=15 {\cm}
