Solution:

Given,

x-{1}/{x}=13

We know,

(a-b)^{2}=a^{2}+b^{2}+2 a b

∴

(x-{1}/{x})^{2}=x^{2}+{1}/{x^{2}}-2 \× x \×{1}/{x}

x^{2}+{1}/{x^{2}}=(13)^{2}+2=169+2=171
