How much percentage above the cost price should a shopkeeper mark his good so that after allowing a discount of 10% he should gain 26% ?

Solution:

Let Cost price = Rs. 100
Profit % = 26%
⇒ Selling price =

100 + ( 26/100 × 100)

100 + 26 = Rs. 126

Discount % = 10%
⇒ Marked price =

126 /(100−10) ×100

14 × 10 = Rs. 140

∴ Markup % =

(140−100)/ 100× 100 = 40%
