A shopkeeper fixes the price of an article at 30% higher than its actual cost. If he sells it at 10% discount on marked price then, the profit is:

Solution:

Let cost price = Rs.100
Markup % = 30%
⇒ Marked price =

100+(30/100×100)

= 100 + 30 = Rs. 130
Discount % = 10%
⇒ Selling price =

130 − ( 10/ 100 × 130)

= 130 − 13 = Rs. 117
∴ Profit % =

(117−100)/100×100=17%
