Two positive whole numbers are such that the sum of the first and twice the second number is 8 and their difference is 2. The numbers are:

Solution:

Let the numbers be

x

and

(x-2)

According to ques,
⇒

x + 2(x − 2) = 8

⇒

x + 2x − 4 = 8

⇒

3x = 8 + 4 = 12

⇒

x =12/ 3 =4

∴ Numbers are = 4, 2
