An engineering student has to secure 36% marks to pass. He gets 53 and fails by 37 marks. Find the maximum marks.

Solution:

Let maximum marks =

100x

⇒ Passing marks =

36/100×100x=36x

According to ques,
⇒

36x − 37 = 53

⇒

36x = 53 + 37 = 90

⇒

x = 90/36=2.5

∴ Maximum marks 100 × 2.5 = 250
