In each of the following questions two equations are given. You have to solve both the equations, find the values of x and y.
I.

3x^2 + 13x + 14 = 0

II.

y^2 + 7y + 12 = 0

Solution:

(I)

3x^2 + 13x + 14 = 0

3x^2 + 6x + 7x + 14 = 0

3x(x + 2) + 7(x + 2) = 0

x=-2,-7/3

(II)

y^2 + 4y + 3y + 12 = 0

y(y + 4) + 3(y + 4) = 0

y = - 3, - 4

Hence the correct option is

x > y
