Two 100 W, 200 V lamps are connected in series across a 200 V supply. The total power consumed by each lamp will be watts :

Solution:

Resistance of each lamp

R=V^2/P

{200×200}/100

= 400Ω

Current in series connection

I=V/{R+R}=200/800=1/4A

Now total power consumed by each lamp

= I ^2R =(1/4)^2×400 =25W

∴ Option (b) is correct.
