The active and reactive powers of an inductive circuit are 60 W and 80 VAR respectively. The power factor of the circuit is :

Solution:

Active power P = 60 W
Reactive power Q = 80 VAR
∴

S = √ {P^2+ Q^2}

√{(60)^2+(80)^2

100 \VA

∴ Power factor =

\cosϕ=P/S=60/100=0.6

Hence the power factor of the circuit is 0.6 lagging
∴ Option (c) is correct.
