Single Phase Induction motor is not self started motor. Capacitor is use in single phase capacitor start motor for creating phase angle difference between starting and main winding. Torque (T) ∝ sin θ θ = Phase angle difference between main and starting winding. So capacitor is use in capacitor start motor for starting Torque.
