The number of conductor of compensating winding in a D.C. machine is always less then the number of armature conductor per pole and compensating winding is in series with armature windings. Magnetic field of compensating winding neutralize the cross magnetizing field of the Armature. Compensating winding is use for those machine where load fluctuation is higher.
