When the valance electron moves from valence band to conduction Band a vacancy is created in the valance band where electron left such vacancy is called hole.
In fig (i) Three electron in valance band and due to excitation, electrons breaks the covalent bond and jump to conduction band in fig (2) and left valance band i.e. hole.
