If an atom loses one or more electron, it become electrically positive. If an atom gain one or more electron, it become electrically negative.
In ordinary matter, the number of electron in an atom is the same as the number of protons. As atom that gain or loses an electron, become an ion. If it gain electron, it become a negative ion.
If it losses an electron it becomes a positive ion.
