Two boys are on opposite sides of a tower of 80 meters height. They measures the angles of elevation of the top of tower as 45° and 60° respectively. The distance between two boys (in meters) is

Validate

Solution:

∆ P A B=\tan 45^{∘}=\;{A B}/{P A}

1=\;{80}/{ PA } ⇒ PA =80

∆ BAQ , \tan 60^{∘}=\;{ AB }/{ AQ }

√{3}=\;{80}/{ AQ } ⇒ \;{80}/{√{3}}= AQ

∴ PQ = PA + AQ =80+\;{80}/{√{3}}

=\;{80(√{3}+1)}/{√{3}}

=\;{80}/{3}(3+√{3})
