The Nobel Prize in Physics for the year 2016 was given to David J. Thouless, F. Duncan M. Haldane and J. Michael Kosterlitz ‘for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter’. The Nobel Prize in Physics is an annual award given by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
