According to the agriculture ministry’s second advance estimate of horticulture, production most of the vegetables including onion, potato and tomato, recorded an increase in 2016-17 as compared to their production in 2015-16. The production of onion is estimated at 21.6 million tonnes, which is an increase of 3% over the previous year. Similarly, the potato production has increased from 43.4 million tonnes in 2015-16 to 46.5 million tonnes in the current year, which is 7.2% higher than the previous year.
