Solution:

(b) Suppose required ratio be K : 1.
Then, 3x + K : 4x + 1 : 5x = 5:4:3
Using II and III parts of the ratio,

{4x+3}/{5x}=4/3

⇒ 12x + 3 = 20x
⇒ 8x = 3
⇒ x =

3/8

Using I and II parts of the ratio,

{3x+K}/{4x+1}=5/4

⇒ 12x + 4K = 20x + 5
⇒ 4K = 8x + 5
= 8 x +

3/8

+ 5 = 8
⇒ K = 2
∴ Required ratio = 2:1
