Solution:

(a) Total number of students in 2005
=

{77×100}/11

= 700
Number of students from state A in 2005= 28% of 700
=

{28×700}/100

= 196
Now, 10 % students increased in 2006.
Then, candidates passed in 2006 from A = 110% of 196
=

{110×196}/100

= 216
Number of students passed from state B in 2005 = 16% of 700
=

{16×700}/100

= 112
Now, 20% students increased in 2006.
Then, candidates passed in 2006 from B= 120% of 112
=

{120×112}/100

= 134
∴ -.Required total = 216 + 134 = 350
