Two trains running in opposite directions cross a man standing on the platform in 30 seconds and 20 seconds respectively and they cross each other in 25 seconds. Find the ratio of their speeds

Validate

Solution:

Let the speed of the two trains
be x m/sec and y m/sec.
Length of the first train, a = 30x
Length of second train, b = 20y
If two trains are travelling in the opposite direction with x and y m/sec and distance of A and B
Then, time taken will be

{a+b}/{x+y}

{3 0 x + 2 0 y}/{x+y}=25

⇒

30x + 20y = 25x + 25y

⇒

5x = 5y

⇒

x/y=1:1
