Voltage of inductor is directly proportional to the reactance of inductor ${\mathit{X}}_{\mathit{L}}$ . When voltage across the inductor is greater than the voltage across resistor then under this condition $\prime {\mathit{X}}_{\mathit{L}}\prime$ is greater than R and circuit become inductive in nature. So phase angle increases.
