R = 4 Ω, X_L = 12 Ω

and

X_C = 9 Ω

and is supplied with 200 V, 50 Hz Calculate the power.

Solution:

The impedence of series RLC circuit is given by

Z =√{R^2+( X_ L- X_ C)^2

Phase angle between current and voltage is

ϕ =tan^{-1}({X_ L- X_ C}/R)

=tan^{-1}({12-9}/4)

ϕ =36.86º

Average Power = VI cos

ϕ

∴

I=V/Z=200/5=40A

Now

P = 200 ×40× cos36.86 =6400
