If the equivalent torque in a shaft is 500 Nm and the bending moment is 300 Nm. Calculate the magnitude of the required torque and the equivalent bending moment.

Solution:

Given: Equivalent torque

T_e=√{m^2+T^2}=500

N-m
Bending moment M = 300 Nm
∵

T_e=√{m^2+T^2}⇒500= √{300^2+T^2}

⇒

25×10^4=900×10^2+T^2

T=400

N-m
∵

M_e=1/2[M+√{m^2+T^2}]

=1/2[300+500]

M_e=400

N-m
