Solution:

Let

\;{1}/{x-3}=a, \;{1}/{y-4}=b

The given equations become

4 a+6 b=5

→ 1

5 a-3 b=1

→ 2
Solving 1 and 2;

a=1/2,b=1/2

\;{1}/{x-3}=\;{1}/{2} ; \;{1}/{y-4}=\;{1}/{2}

x=5 ; y=6 ⇒ x+y=11
